Cowgirls fall to No. 1 MSU Denver in RMAC Tournament opener

DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team played in its first RMAC Tournament match in a decade Tuesday, but ran into the top-ranked team in the national and fell to MSU Denver 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-23) at Auraria Event Center.

In the Cowgirls' first postseason matchup since 2011, Angellina Oliver and Terayah Stukes led the team with seven kills apiece while keegan Lopez had six. Stacy Johnson had a team-best three aces and two blocks, Soleil Gandara had 20 assists and Elena Rivera led the Cowgirls with 11 digs.

NMHU finished the season 11-18, a 10-win improvement under first-year head coach Tom Duke - who took over in February of 2020, but the Cowgirls didn't play last season due to the pandemic. It's the most wins for the Cowgirls since going 11-18 in 2014.
