LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- New Mexico Highlands'
Jordyn Lewis drained a free throw with 14.1 seconds left and the Cowgirls withstood a game-winning attempt by Northern New Mexico to defeat the Eagles 42-41 Saturday at Wilson Complex.
NMHU (3-3 overall) trailed NNMC 41-37 after a three-point play by the Eagles' Rebecca Sorensen with under three minutes remaining before
Sana'a Baker scored in the paint to cut the lead to two with 2:27 left in the contest.
Lewis hit a single free throw with 1:49 remaining to cut it to one before Baker hit a free throw with 45 seconds left to tie the game at 41.

Maiah Rivas steal led to Lewis being fouled with 14.1 seconds remaining. After missing the first, Lewis drained the second to give the Cowgirls a 42-41 advantage.
NNMC shot a jumper with five seconds left, but it was off the mark and NMHU's
Ashley Antone corralled it and ran out the clock.
The Cowgirls overcame shooting struggles as they shot 29.1 percent from the field, including 1-for-22 from 3-point range (going 0-for-14 over the final three quarters). NMHU also just shot 9-for-20 from the free throw line.
However, the NMHU defense held NNMCÂ to 21.2 percent from the field (including 4-for-24 on 3s).
Baker led the Cowgirls with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Rivas and
Awreona Ransom had seven points apiece.
NMHU opens RMAC play on the road Friday as it travels to take on Adams State.
