Cowboys drop two games to Northwest Nazarene on Friday

Grand Junction, CO --- The New Mexico Highlands (1-2) baseball team lose a pair of games against Northwest Nazarene in the second day of play at the Courtyard by Mariott Leadoff Weekend in Grand Junction, CO.
 
It was all Nighthawks in game 1 they jumped to an early 5-2 lead by the end of the 3rd inning, and never looked back to an 18-4 win. Gaylan Young led the Cowboys going 2 for 4 on the day with 2 RBIs and a double while the Cowboys finished the game with 6 hits.  
 
JT Mossberg received the start on the mound for the Cowboys, as he threw 4.2 innings and recorded 1 strikeout.
 
The Cowboys saw an early 2-1 lead slip in game 2 against Northwest Nazarene as the Nighthawks come alive in the 6th inning to take the win 11-5.
 
The Cowboys took an early 2-1 advantage over the Nighthawks early in the second inning as Fabian Ferreira brought in Cobe Lehman and Jesus Chavez with a double to center field. The Nighthawks regained the lead at 4-2 in the top of the 5th inning by scoring 3, however the Cowboys answered as Estevan De La O brought in Morgan and Ashton Roy scored De La O with a ground ball to the short stop, to tie the game at 4.
 
The Nighthawks were able to put together a 6 run inning in the top of the 6th inning and would coast to a 11-5 win over the Cowboys, to take game 2 of the double header. Estevan De La O finished the game with 2 hits, an RBI and a triple while Brandon Baier finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple.
 
The Cowboys will be back in action tomorrow morning at 11 am to take on MSU Billings for their final game of the weekend. Next week, the Cowboys will travel to Colorado Christian for the first series of RMAC play.
