Cowboys fall in extra innings to CSU Pueblo

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team dropped two games to CSU Pueblo on Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, NM at Brandt Field.
 
The ThunderWolves (11-16, 9-14 RMAC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before the Cowboys (7-16, 5-14 RMAC) were able to register two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Estevan De La O blasted a shot to center field that scored Kaylen Hammer and Cobe Lehman to make it 5-2 ThunderWolves.
 
After both teams scored a run in the sixth inning, the ThunderWolves saw five runs come across the plate in the top of the seventh inning to give CSU Pueblo an 11-3 advantage.
 
Hammer singled to left field before two passed balls and a single from Ashton Roy would score the last run of the evening as the ThunderWolves went on to an 11-4 win.
 
Roy and Hammer both finished with two hits apiece to lead the Cowboys while Jadrian Martinez moves to 1-3 on the year after giving up five runs off nine hits and two strikeouts.
 
After dropping the game two of the series, the Cowboys fell in game four 4-3 after leaving the bases loaded two times in extra innings.
 
CSU Pueblo scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning before Roy tied the game with a solo home run that nearly hit the right-field foul ball post.
 
Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning before going scoreless for the next three innings.
 
JT Mossberg stepped in for Angel Castillo after throwing for nine innings as CSU Pueblo Ty Lewis hit the go-ahead run with one out in the tenth inning.
 
Gaylan Young added a hit in the bottom of the tenth before Aiden McNichol hit into a double-play to give the ThunderWolves a 4-3 win.
 
Young led the way for the Cowboys with a game-high four hits that included his seventh double on the season. Mossberg moves to 1-4 on the year as Castillo pitched 9 innings giving up 3 runs off nine hits and two strikeouts.
 
The Cowboys will face CSU Pueblo tomorrow at 12 pm at Brandt Field to finish off the four-game series.
