DURANGO, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team shot 58.3 percent from the field and connected on 13 of 28 3-pointers on its way to a 97-83 win at Fort Lewis on Friday night.
The Cowboys (8-11 overall, 3-10 RMAC) shot over 60 percent in the first half and drained 7 of 13 3-pointers to take a 52-39 lead at the half. NMHU stayed ahead of the Skyhawks in the second half to pick up the much-needed road conference win.
Six players finished in double figures for the Cowboys with
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins leading the way with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Andre Adams finished with 16 points and five rebounds,
Desmond Carpenter had 15 points and four steals,
Eric Sonnenberg off the bench had 15 points - going 4-for-5 from 3-point range - and Ja'Vary Christmas had 10 points.
NMHU looks to continue its winning ways Saturday at Western Colorado.
