LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team lost to Colorado Christian 17-9 on Sunday in the teams' series final at Brandt Field.
The Cowboys (3-13 overall, 1-3 RMAC) gave up seven runs in the first and cut the Cougars' (5-11, 3-1) lead to 8-4 in the second inning - highlighted by a
Jared Brown two-run single - but CCU scored another in the third and six more in the fourth to take a commanding lead.
Brown paced NMHU at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Estevan De La O went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and
Jose Ayala went 2-for-3 with and RBI, two runs and a pair of doubles.
Gavin Gifford got the loss for the Cowboys, going three innings and giving up nine runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Will Copes was effective in relief for NMHU, going the final two innings and giving up just one hit.
NMHU hits the road next week as it takes on UCCS starting 2 p.m. Friday.
