LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team lost to Colorado School of Mines 20-10 Saturday in the series finale against the Orediggers at Brandt Field to split the series.
NMHU (14-26, 10-14) took a 5-3 lead after two innings after scoring five in the second - highlighted by a
Estevan De La O two-run triple (his NCAA-leading 10th triple of the year).
But the Orediggers (24-13, 9-11) scored multiple runs in each inning from the fifth inning on and the Cowboys couldn't keep up and fell 20-10.
Jared Brown paced the Cowboys at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run (his 14th of the season), two doubles, three runs and an RBI while
Cobe Lehman,
Joe Kuhn and Lubby Marujo had two hits apiece and
Aidan McNichol had a team-best three RBI.
Gavin Gifford got the loss, going 0.2 innings and giving up two runs on a hit as NMHU used eight pitchers in the contest.
NMHU returns to action Tuesday as they host University of the Southwest in a non-conference doubleheader.
