Cowgirls fall in opener against Chaminade

Las Vegas, NM – Cowgirls open up season at NMHU Soccer Complex against the visiting Silverswords of Chaminade University.

Monday 08.29.22 at The NMHU Soccer Complex

12:00pm — A tough first half for the Cowgirls was the difference in a well fought contest. 3 goals late in the first half by the Silverswords couldn't be overcome by the the Cowgirls who played a very measured second half. Goalkeeper Isabella Ortiz made her first collegiate start today and looked the part for the Cowgirls as she battled between the posts.

"Isabella showed up and showed us a lot. We have a lot of youth on this team and she is one that made a big impact." - Head coach Bianca Edwards on the first game of the year.

First time; Full time
 — The Cowgirls have 13 freshman on the team and they all saw the pitch today. Defenseman, #21, Devyn Gunn played a Iions share today and was crucial in holding the back line for the Cowgirls

"We're proud of the way Devyn stepped up. She's been pushing it the last few weeks and she really impressed her teammates. - Coach Edwards when asked about Gunn's contribution.

First of many Desiree Hermosillo netted the first goal of the season for the Cowgirls on a set play corner kick.
"Desiree is my roommate and my best friend. Seeing the excitement in her eyes and seeing her happy is the best. It was an amazing goal it was one we needed" - Melissa Olivares on the celebration for the Cowgirl goal
