Cowgirls to Host Softball Prospect Camp

Weekend of October 8 & 9

New Mexico Highlands Head Softball Coach Kevin Jannusch has announced the second annual Cowgirls Softball Prospect Camp for the weekend of October 8 & 9. The camp is for future college softball players graduating high school from 2023-2028, or this years seniors through 7th graders.

This year's camp will feature both popular events from the inaugural camp as well as a few new wrinkles. "Our prospect camp is so well received, we wanted to make sure that every camper could take something away from Las Vegas that they could use in their recruiting, be it at New Mexico Highlands or any other college softball program," Jannusch said.

"The first thing we are doing is bringing in other head coaches from a variety of levels," the third-year Cowgirls' coach explained. Randy Krutsch, Luna Community College head softball coach will be on hand to assist with the camp. Also, head coaches from junior college Midland College and NCAA Division 3 McMurry University will be in attendance. "This gives campers a change to catch the eye of a variety of programs. All of the coaches we invited are quality leaders with established or up and coming programs."

Other highlights on tap for the weekend are: A campus tour; free admission to an NMHU football game; presentations on admissions and financial aid processes and lunch in the Highlands cafeteria. Sunday will be all softball as the Highlands coaches and players as well and guest coaches will measure relevant softball metrics such as arm velocity and bat exit speed. Skills evaluations will also be recorded and available to call campers for hitting, fielding and pitching. The Sunday afternoon session will allow camper to show off their skills with scrimmages.
Jannusch reports there will be a cap on the number of registrants the camp will take.
