Gunnison, Colorado - The New Mexico Highlands Soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to Western Colorado University on Sunday afternoon. The Cowgirls are now 0-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Western Colorado improves to 1-6-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
The Mountaineers tallied a pair of first half goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead at the half. Kaylee Castaño got the Cowgirls on the scoreboard 13 minutes into the second half cutting the Western Colorado lead to 2-1. A late Mountaineer goal pushed the lead to 3-1 for the hosts.
The Castaño goal was the first of her NMHU career.
NMHU returns home next weekend for conference matches against Black Hills State on Friday and Regis on Sunday.
