Las Vegas, New Mexico - Chadron State scored a touchdown with 1:11 remaining in the fourth quarter to steal a win from New Mexico Highlands on Saturday afternoon at Sanchez Family Stadium.

With the loss,  the Cowboys are now 2-7 overall overall and 1-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Chadron State improves to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The Cowboys jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on a touchdown run by Shawntay Mills Jr. just 44 seconds into the game. That score was set up by a Nigil Thomas interception on Chadron State's first play from scrimmage.

After an Eagle field goal made the score 7-3, Teneil Nichols hauled in a 37 yard pass from Jonathan Jerry to make the score 14-3 Cowboys midway through the opening quarter. Chadron State recorded its first touchdown of the day early in the second quarter to make the score 14-10. Joey Cave then scored on a nine yard touchdown run as time expired in the second quarter to give the Cowboys a 21-10 lead at the break.

Chadron State scored a defensive touchdown in the third quarter and added a two point conversion to cut the NMHU lead to 21-18.The teams traded possessions for the remainder of the third quarter and most of the fourth until the Eagles punched in the go ahead score with just 1:11 remaining.

Shawntay Mills Jr had a big day rushing the ball for the Cowboys as he amassed 139 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown. The effort by Mills on Saturday is the second highest single game rushing total in the RMAC this season.

Defensively, Devin Coney led the Cowboys again this week with 10 total tackles in the game. Brendon Luper and Nigil Thomas each added six tackles. Fernie Herrera recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
