Colorado Springs, Colorado - The New Mexico Highlands cross country teams competed in the UCCS XC Open on Friday morning. The event was held at Monument Valley Park.
"Everyone who raced improved from the same course a month ago. And that's what it is all about, getting fitter and racing fast," said Head Coach
Bob DeVries after today's race. "We saw PRs from Celso, Lucia,
Edgar Hernandez and
Josey French on a challenging course at over 6,000 feet of elevation."

Lucia Harrison shaved a full 30 seconds off her personal best time in this morning's event.

Celso Garcia was the top Division II finisherĀ in the field.
"Celso moved to the front with about 2k to go, but the Air Force men reeled him in over the last kilometer," said DeVries. "Those are DI runners fighting for spots on the AFA team that is ranked #8 in the nation. Very tough competition."
The teams now turn their attention to preparing for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship on October 21st.
