Lakewood, Colorado - Colorado Christian handed New Mexico Highlands a 3-1 set-back Friday evening in Lakewood. The Cougars won the match 25-13, 25-10, 19-25, 25-23. NMHU is now 3-24 overall and 1-12 in the RMAC while Colorado Christian is 12-14 and 7-7.
Colorado Christian jumped out and took the opening two sets in relatively easy fashion. The Cowgirls battled back and took the third set where they hit .314 as a team. The deciding fourth set was close throughout as the Cougars edged NMHU to close out the match.
Angeline Burton and
Jaylee Gonzales led the Cowgirls with nine and seven kills respectively.
Abby Carlsen recorded 18 assists in the match while
Layla Hooks and Carlsen each recorded a pair of service aces.
Defensively,
Jada Lawson recorded a match high six blocks.
Sophia Hendricks-Montes had 11 digs while
Jaylee Gonzales added 10.
The Cowgirls head to Chadron, Nebraska, for a 4:00 pm match with Chadron State on Saturday afternoon.
