Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team used a big second half to defeat Northern New Mexico 89-60 Tuesday afternoon in front of a crowd of 1,187 on Youth Day. The win pushed the Cowboys' record to 2-1 on the season.
The Cowboys led by as many as nine points midway through the opening half and ultimately led 34-26 at the intermission. After the break, the Cowboys pulled away, out-scoring the visiting Eagles 55-34 in the second half.
NMHU shot 49.1% from the floor and wereĀ 9-19 (47.4%) from beyond the arc. They out rebounded Northern New Mexico 36-31.
Senior
Ezichi Kalu led the way posting his first career double-double with 19 points and a game high 13 rebounds. He also added a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore
Messiah Turner was also in double figures with 11 points. Sophomore
Rodney Mason II added three assists and four steals.
These two teams will meet again this coming Monday evening in Española. Tip-off at the Eagle Memorial Sportsplex is set for 5:00 pm.
