Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter, out scoring Northern New Mexico 22-7, to capture their first win of the year 62-52 Tuesday afternoon at the Wilson Complex.
In the decisive fourth quarter, the Cowgirls shot 58% (7 of 12) from the floor and 3-5 from beyond the arc to clinch the win. They out rebounded the visiting Eagles 41-34. Defensively, NMHU limited Northern New Mexico to 28.8% (21 of 73) shooting for the game.
Juliana Aragon led the way offensively for the Cowgirls scoring 16 points. She was a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line.
Aja Scott paced the Cowgirls with 10 rebounds while
Delani Harris chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
The Cowgirls are next in action this coming Friday afternoon when they travel to play CSU-Pueblo in a non-conference game. Tip-off at Massari Arena is at 5:00 pm.
