Lubbock, Texas - The New Mexico Highlands men's cross country team was in Texas for the 2023 NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships Saturday morning.
The Cowboys finished ninth among the 25 teams competing at today's event which was hosted by Lubbock Christian University.
Senior
Andrew Amor paced NMHU by finishing the 10k race in 29:15.37 which was good for a fifth place finish in the talent laden field.
"This was a tale of two races, our top three finishers, Andrew, John and Celso each set personal bests for the 10k and put us in great position, but our next two men struggled with injury flare-ups and finished far back from projected placings," said Head Coach
Bob DeVries. "We are going to be on the bubble for an at-large bid into the NCAA meet. We beat a number of top 5 teams from other regions, but it's a complicated process to select the teams," he continued.
Speaking about the effort from
Andrew Amor on Saturday, Coach DeVries said, "Andrew continued to show he is going to be in the mix for a spot on the podium at Nationals with his race today."
NMHU Results:
