Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team opened the RMAC portion of the 2023-24 schedule with a 72-63 win Friday evening over Colorado Christian in the Wilson Complex. The Cowboys improve to 4-2 overall while the Cougars drop to 3-4 on the season.
After a back and forth first half, the Cowboys led 34-32 at the intermission. NMHU never trailed in the second half as they outscored Cougars 10-2 to lead 44-34 at the 15:00 mark.
As a team, the Cowboys shot 42% (24-57) from the floor and 90% (18 of 20) from the free-throw line. They out-rebounded Colorado Christian 37-33 in the contest.
Senior
Ezichi Kalu posted his second double-double of the season as he scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Kyrie Thomas (12 points), Aamod Scarbrough (11 points), and
Messiah Turner (11 points) all were in double figures for the Cowboys.
Rodney Mason II had a game high four steals.
The Cowboys return to action tomorrow evening as they welcome Chadron State to the Wilson Complex for a 7:00 pm game. The Eagles started their RMAC campaign off with an 84-82 win over CSU-Pueblo on Friday.
