Juliana Aragon scored with two seconds remaining on the clock to lift New Mexico Highlands to a 74-73 win over Colorado Christian Friday evening at the Wilson Complex in the RMAC opener for both teams. The Cowgirls improve to 2-4 on the season while the Cougars are now 4-3.
Colorado Christian led by eight points with 2:27 remaining in the game but the Cowgirls finished strong with a lay-up by
Eva Ongoongotau, a three pointer by
Maiah Rivas and six points from Aragon to close out the Cougars.
Junior
Maiah Rivas shot seven of ten from beyond the arc and led all scorers with 23 points on Friday.
Juliana Aragon had 17 points and six assists.
Neysa Munguia led the Cowgirls with seven rebounds.
As a team the Cowgirls shot 43% (29 of 67) from the floor and 47% (14 of 30) from three-point range.
Up next, the Cowgirls host Chadron State tomorrow evening at 5:00 pm. The Eagles dropped a 62-52 decision to CSU-Pueblo on Friday in their RMAC opener.
