Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team dropped a 63-46 decision to Black Hills State on Friday evening at the Wilson Complex. The loss dropped the Cowgirls record to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in RMAC play. The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
The two teams went back and forth in the opening quarter, with the Cowgirls leading 7-6 at the 5:55 mark on a
Juliana Aragon three pointer. The visitors would pull away and took a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Black Hills State extended the lead to 30-19 at the half. The Cowgirls outscored the Yellow Jackets 12-9 in the third, but could pull no closer.
Sophomore
Juliana Aragon and
Emily Burk led NMHU with nine points apiece on Friday night.
Neysa Munguia grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
Aja Scott scored nine points and had five rebounds.
For the game NMHU shot 31% from the floor and 40% from the free throw line. Black Hills State won the battle of the boards 42-33.
The Cowgirls get right back into action on Saturday as the host South Dakota Mines, tip-off is at 4:00 pm.
