Cowgirls Edged By South Dakota Mines

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team dropped a tough 59-56 decision to South Dakota Mines on Saturday at the Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls fall to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC. The Hardrockers improve to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

The Cowgirls started the game strong and never trailed in the opening quarter, leading 15-12 as time expired. The second quarter began the same way with NMHU leading by as many as five points but South Dakota Mines scored the final five points of the quarter to tie the score at the half 28-28. The two teams each scored 17 points in the third quarter and the Hardrockers edged NMHU 14-11 in the final quarter to get the 59-56 win.

The Cowgirls shot 37% from the floor for the game. The Hardrockers out rebounded NMHU 38-26 and were 16-16 from the free-throw line.

Junior Neysa Munguia led the Cowgirls with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while Juliana Aragon added 12 points in the game.

Up next for the Cowgirls is a New Years Eve non-conference game at CSU-Pueblo. Tip off is at 12:00 pm.
