Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cowboys Fall At Nationally Ranked Fort Lewis

Durango, Colorado - Despite a big run mid-way through the second half, the New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team lost a 91-77 at Fort Lewis on Friday. The Cowboys are now 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC. Fort Lewis, ranked #20 in this week's NABC NCAA Division II Top 20, improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Fort Lewis never trailed in the first half and held a 42-25 edge at the break. The Skyhawks would extend that lead to 16 points early in the second half, but the Cowboys came all the way back and tied it at 65 on a Messiah Turner jumper with 8:36 remaining in the game. The Skyhawks held off the Cowboys down the stretch as they secured the home win.

Kenard Richardson picked up where he left off last Saturday as he led all scorers with 35 points on 12 of 18 shooting from the floor including a perfect seven for seven beyond the arc. AC Curry added a double-double as he scored 12 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

The Cowboys shot 43% from the floor, 50% from three-point range, and 78% from the free-throw line. They also out rebounded Fort Lewis 41-31.

Up next, NMHU heads to Alamosa tomorrow night for a 7:30 pm contest at Adams State.
