Cowgirls Sweep Day 1 of Must Win Matchups

Las Vegas, NM- The Cowgirls rode the shoulders of their defense led by their top two pitchers. Maya Milano and Arianna Ramirez appeared to have control of the Skyhawks in both of these contests. Dioni Lincoln and Samantha Gamboa were running all over the field laying their bodies on the line for the team. These efforts come in a pair of must win games for the Cowgirls. In order to make the tournament they must sweep the Skyhawks for the weekend series.

In Game 1- The Skyhawks got off to a promising start by taking the lead 3-0 in the first inning. The Cowgirls responded with the same level of resiliency they have shown all season. They responded by earning 2 runs in the 1st and 3 runs in the 2nd. After the first inning, Maya Milano tapped into a zone while standing in the circle that the Skyhawks were unable to enter. Milano in particular had a "change up" in her back pocket that seemed to be a secret weapon. The Skyhawks did not have an answer and did not see home plate again for the rest of the matchup following the 1st inning. Dioni Lincoln also made an extremely important high effort play that sparked a double play while the Skyhawks were threatening home base. Megan Gutierrez also registered a team high 3 hits in this contest while Dioni Lincoln had 3 RBI's.

Game 2- Arianna Ramirez picked up right where Milano left off in game 1. Ramirez was locked in from the beginning. She made it extremely difficult for the Skyhawks to find her pitches. Ramirez allowed a total of zero runs in the contest. The game was 0-0 until Annika Ruiz smashed her first home run of the season to left field in the 4th inning. This put the Cowgirls up 2-0. Arianna Ramirez and the Cowgirl's defense would continue their tear and seal the victory at 2-0.

Next Matchup- The Cowgirls will host the Skyhawks again on Sunday, April 16th in a second double header matchup. The Cowgirls need to win both games in order to keep their post season hope alive.
