The New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls faced off against the Metro State University of Denver Roadrunners in a doubleheader on Friday, April 29th. Despite their best efforts, the Cowgirls were unable to come away with a win in either game, losing 2-1 in the first game and 7-5 in the second.
In game one, the Roadrunners took an early lead with two runs in the fourth inning. The Cowgirls fought back in the sixth inning with an RBI single by A. Ramirez, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Roadrunners.
The second game saw the Roadrunners take an even stronger lead, scoring five runs in the first inning alone. The Cowgirls were able to chip away at the lead with a three-run home run by M. Gutierrez in the fifth inning, followed by an RBI single from M. Milano in the seventh inning. However, it wasn't enough to mount a comeback, and the Cowgirls ultimately lost 7-5.
Despite the losses, the Cowgirls can still be proud of their season. With a record of 20-31, they improved by 12 games over last year's record. The team showed great resilience and determination throughout the season, and they have a lot to build on heading into next year.
The Cowgirls will now turn their attention to the offseason.
