Cowboys Swept in Season Finale

Cowboys Swept By CCU in Season Finale

Lakewood, CO- The Cowboys took the field for the last time during the 2023 season. Unfortunately, the season ended in a series sweep to RMAC opponent Colorado Christian. Although the Cowboys did not win either game on Saturday, they displayed bright spots just like they have done all season. Despite a struggling record there often are diamonds lying in the rough.

Game 1- Today Nate Corrugedo was the diamond as he ripped off 3 RBI's on a double and a homer during the first contest. The Cowboys kept the game close during the beginning of the first matchup. Braden Dedrick and Nate Corrugedo both produced doubles while at bat in the 2nd inning. Those two at-bats generated 3 RBI's which tied the game at 3-3. Christian managed to score 1 run in each of the next 3 innings taking a 6-3 lead. Entering the bottom of the 8th is when Corrugedo gave his team a last push for victory as he blasted a homer into left center, scoring two Cowboys. This jolted a great response from CCU as they took off for 7 runs in the 8th inning closing the deal on the Cowboys to seal a 13-5 win.

Game 2- The Cowboys came out flat in this matchup, to say the least as they struggled to score a run in the first 5 innings. The Cougars rocketed out in front to a 9-0 lead on NMHU until the 5th inning when the Cowboys got on the scoreboard. Scoring 4 runs in the 6th inning gave the Cowboys a slither of hope as the Cougars lead was moved to 10-4 heading into the top of the 7th. Cobe Lehman connected on a double at bat earning himself 2 RBI's bringing the score to 10-6. Despite the late efforts, NMHU was unable to pull off the comeback. It should be noted how the Cowboys did not give up and instead clawed their way back into this matchup.
