Box Score 2 The New Mexico Highlands Volleyball Team split the opening day of the TAMKU Invitational.
In the opening match of the day the Cowgirls knocked off Ouachita Baptist (AR) 3-1. The nightcap saw Quincy (IL) hand NMHU a 3-0 setback. NMHU bested Ouachita Baptist 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25 in their first match of the day. Four Cowgirls notched double digit kills in the match led by Freshman
Seraiah Morgan with 16.
Amirah Young (15), Jaylee Gozales (13), and
Aziza Morris (11) all had impressive outings in the openers.
Megan Waghorn and
Ashleigh Meyer posted 29 and 24 assists respectively.
Defensively
Abby Carlsen had 21 digs while
Jada Lawson led the way with eight total blocks.
The Cowgirls hit .268 in the match and recorded an impressive 11 service aces.
In the second match of the day Highlands fell to the Quincy Hawks 25-11, 25-11, 25-16. Quincy, members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, qualified for the NCAA II Volleyball Championships a year ago.
Once again freshmen
Seraiah Morgan (7) and
Jaylee Gonzales (5) led the Cowgirls in kills.
Highlands hit .061 in the match.
NMHU has two matches tomorrow in Kingsville before heading home. They will face the host TAMUK at 11:30 am and close out the tournament at 3:30 with a match against Tiffin (OH).
