Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team opens the 2023 season against Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday evening at the Wilson Complex. Match time is set for 6:00 pm.
The Cowgirls are 1-8 entering Friday's match after battling through a challenging early season schedule. CSU-Pueblo, also playing their first RMAC match of the year, is 1-7. The two teams both participated in the TAMUK Invitational in Texas to start the season two weeks ago.
Head coach
Tom Duke begins his 9th season at the Helm of the New Mexico Highlands University volleyball team. He led the cowgirls to the RMAC playoff berths in 2004, 2005 and 2021. Duke played collegiately at the University of Southern California where he was the National Player of the Year in 1988 and a three-time All-American.
The ThuderWolves are led by fifth-year head coach Austin Elbers. Elbers, a 2012 graduate of Black Hills State, is 64-43 at CSU-Pueblo.
NMHU was tabbed for a 13th place finish in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll while the ThunderWolves were slated for 5th place.
Friday's match marks the 79th meeting between the two programs with the ThuderWolves holding a 45-33 edge in the all time series.
