Volleyball Set For 2023 Home Opener Tuesday

New Mexico Highlands hosts Angelo State Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match starting at 3:00 pm.

Last Week: The Cowgirls went 1-3 against a strong field at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational this past weekend. They started the tournament with a 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist before losing to Quincy, Texas A&M Kingsville, and Tiffin. Seraiah Morgan was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play over the four matches.

Statistically Speaking: Morgan led the Cowgirls with 33 kills in Texas. Aziza Morris and Jaylee Gonzales added 27 and 26 kills respectively. Megan Waghorn (63 assists) and Ashleigh Meyer (53) shared the setting duties. Defensively, Abby Carlsen recorded 51 digs while Jada Lawson and Layla Hooks contributed 10 and 8 blocks over the course of the weekend.

Scouting the Rambelles: Angelo State brings a 4-0 record into Tuesday's match with the Cowgirls after sweeping the field (University of the Southwest, Henderson State, Houston-Tillotson, and UT Permian Basin) at the 2023 Kathleen Brasfield Invitational. Head Coach Chuck Waddington is in his 16th season leading the Angelo State Volleyball program.

Series History: Angelo State, a member of the Lone Star Conference, is making its first ever visit to Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon. The Cowgirls and Rambelles have met on seven previous occasions with Angelo State holding a 6-1 edge in the series history. The most recent meeting was last August in San Angelo, Texas, with Angelo State defeating NMHU 3-0. The Cowgirls won at Angelo State 3-0 in 2007.

Coach Duke on Tuesday's Match: "We are excited to have a top Lone Star Team play us at home. We have made a couple of adjustments from the weekend and hope to have some rotations work better for us."
