Denver, Colorado - Regis used a late goal to defeat New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon 3-2. The Cowgirls are now 2-8-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the RMAC.
Kate Rayner opened the scoring 34 minutes into the match when she scored off an assist from
Renee Johnson. The Cowgirls took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Regis scored the first two goals of the second half and led 2-1 at the 63rd minute mark of the match.
Kate Rayner scored her second goal of the match, this time on an assist from
Acacia Rodriguez, to tie the match at 2-2. The Rangers,however, netted the game winner with just under 10 minutes to go in the contest.
With two goals this afternoon,
Kate Rayner now has four goals on the season which is sixth best in the RMAC.
Renee Johnson has two assists this year and
Acacia Rodriguez has five points in 2024 for the Cowgirls.
"We put up a great fight against Regis. We had more shooting opportunities and we were able to take advantage of some of them," said Head Coach
Amanda Evans after the match. " We lost the game, but we were proud of the energy and work the players put in today."
NMHU returns home for a match with MSU-Denver this coming Friday at 3:00 pm.
