Grand Junction, Colorado - NMHU lost to Colorado Mesa 21-10 on Saturday afternoon at Stocker Stadium. The Cowboys are 1-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play on the season.
The game was scoreless after nearly 25 minutes of play when the Cowboys opened scoring in Saturday's game on a 24 yard field goal by
Logan Matthews with just over three minutes remaining in the half. The Mavericks scored two minutes later to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
After CMU scores late in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter, NMHU found the end zone on a 34 yard touchdown reception by
Mike Jones from
Waika Crawford to make the score 21-10.
Tevita Valeti had 87 yards on 15 carries on Saturday. He now has 572 rushing yards on 99 carries this season for the Cowboys.
Cayden Walton added 20 yards on four carries.
Waika Crawford was four of six for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Jones was the leading receiver with four catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
DaMonte Campbell had a season high 11 tackles on Saturday afternoon. He also recorded his first interception of the season in the first quarter Saturday.
The Cowboys return to action next Saturday evening when they host Adams State at 5:00 pm. Saturday's game is the First Responders Game presented by the City of Las Vegas with free admission to the game.
