New Orleans, Louisiana - Two days after his performance at the Dallas Baptist University Old Glory Gallup on Saturday morning, freshman
Weldon Chebon has been named the NCAA Division II Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA.
Chebon bested 400 other runners to complete the 8k course in 23:33 at Grand Prairie's Lynn Creek Park, beating his closest competitor by nearly 20 seconds.
He becomes the third athlete from New Mexico Highlands to be honored as the National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA.
Andrew Amor earned the honor last October after winning the 2023 RMAC Cross Country Championship. Former Cowboy standout Collins Kurui claimed the recognition October 12, 2015 and September 5, 2017.
NMHU Cross Country is preparing for the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships which will be held on October 26th at the Gene Torres Golf Course in Las Vegas.
