Trio Of Matches On Tap For Cowgirls This Week

Las Vegas, New Mexico - NMHU Volleyball has a trio of matches on tap this week beginning Tuesday night in Silver City when the Cowgirls play their final non-conference match of the season against Western New Mexico. They return home for conference matches against Colorado School of Mines on Friday and MSU-Denver on Saturday.

HEAD COACH: Meg Grose is in her first season leading the New Mexico Highlands volleyball team. She was named the new head coach in December of last year after spending the 2023 season as the Head Coach at Lawrence University. She spent time as the assistant coach at New Mexico Highlands from 2020 to 2023.

LAST WEEK: The Cowgirls dropped a pair of non-conference matches as part of RMAC Regional Pod play, losing 3-0 at Adams State on Tuesday night and 3-1 to Fort Lewis in Las Vegas on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Western New Mexico, a member of the Lone Star Conference, is 5-10 overall. They dropped a pair of conference matches this past weekend at Texas A&M International and Texas A&M Kingsville. Geno Frugoli is the head coach of the Mustangs, he has a record of 11-33 in Silver City. The two instate rivals restarted the series in the 2021 season after a hiatus due to WNMU moving from the RMAC to the Lone Star Conference.

Colorado School of Mines comes to Las Vegas for a 5:00 pm match on Friday at 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC. The Orediggers lost to MSU-Denver and Colorado Christian in RMAC Regional Pod Play last weekend. Jamie Magalei is in her 17th season at the Colorado School of Mines where she has a career record of 359-131.

MSU-Denver is 13-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Roadrunners, ranked Number 2 in this week's AVCA Division II Poll, swept its RMAC Regional Pod Matches last weekend beating Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines. Jenny Glenn is in her ninth season at MSU-Denver, she has a career record of 204-48 at the helm of the Roadrunners.

"I love the opportunity to play an in-state team," said Head Coach Meg Grose. "We are hoping for a competitive match to set us up for our tough RMAC matches we face this Friday and Saturday during homecoming weekend."

RMAC NETWORK: With the exception of the October 8th match at Western New Mexico, all of the Cowgirls matches will be broadcast on the RMAC Network. Once again this season, NMHU home matches will be handled by New Mexico Broadcaster of the Year Scott Galetti.
