Canyon, Texas - NMHU dropped a 74-65 decision to host West Texas A&M on the second day of the Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls are now 3-3 on the season.
Despite trailing by double digits early in the game, the Cowgirls battled back and took the lead 46-45 early in the fourth quarter when
Eva Ongoongotau converted a layup on an assist from
Emma Christiano. That would be as close NMHU would get, however, as the host Lady Buffs outscored NMHU 29-19 to close out the game.
Three Cowgirls scored in double figures led by junior
Juliana Aragon's 16 points.
Kapiolani Anitielu added 13 points while
Eva Ongoongotau scored 11.
West Texas A&M out rebounded NMHU 49-32.
The Cowgirls shot 42.2% from the floor, 46.7% from beyond the arc and 57.1% from the free throw line.
The Cowgirls now turn their attention to the RMAC season as they welcome Regis to historic Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon in the conference opener for both teams. Tip off is 5:00 pm.
