Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands dropped the 2024-25 RMAC opener 84-77 to visiting Regis on Thursday evening. The Cowgirls are now 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Cowgirls started fast as they led 28-24 at the end of the first quarter and 47-39 at the halftime break.The visiting Rangers turned the tables on NMHU outscoring the Cowgirls 27-14 in the third quarter. The Cowgirls got within one at the 4:02 mark of the final quarter when an
Eva Ongoongotau jumper cut the Ranger lead to 76-75. Regis sealed the win with an 8-2 run to close out the contest.
Freshman
Kapiolani Anitielu led the Cowgirls with 19 points.
Aspen Salazar and
Eva Ongoongotau each scored 15 points.
Caitlin Turnbow had a team high seven rebounds.
The Cowgirls were 52.7% from the floor on Thursday, the team's best shooting effort since they shot 53.3% against Adams State on February 3, 2023.
Regis was 22-32 from the free throw line while the Cowgirls were 13-17.
NMHU out rebounded the Rangers 33-25.
