Durango, Colorado - Fort Lewis College handed the Cowboys a 44-22 setback on Saturday afternoon. NMHU is 2-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
The host Skyhawks scored first on Saturday but the Cowboys responded when
Cayden Walton took a
Joey Cave pass 24 yards for a touchdown and
Logan Matthews converted the point after to tie the score at 7-7.
NMHU used a bit of trickery on their second touchdown of the afternoon when
Teneil Nichols tossed a 27 yard touchdown strike to a wide open
Mike Jones that tied the score at 14-14. Fort Lewis posted two more scores and led 24-14 at the half.
The Cowboys final score of the day came on a six yard run by
Luis Pando and two point conversion from
Joey Cave to
Armani Sheriff.
Cave was 18 of 26 for 206 yards and a touchdown throwing the ball on Saturday.
Tevita Valeti had 70 yards on 14 carries.
Teneil Nichols led all receivers with nine catches for 108 yards.
The Cowboys wrap up the 2024 season next Saturday afternoon when Black Hills State visits historic Las Vegas. Kick-off is at 12:00 pm.
