Muscat, Oman -
Andrew Amor posted a Top 10 finish at the
2024 FISU World University Cross Country Championships this morning. He finished the 10k course in 29:59 which placed him ninth in the field of 73 competitors. He was the top finisher for the Australian team which placed fourth in the event.
"It was an absolute honour to be selected to represent Australia in the World University Cross Country Championships. I've had a blast with the team and enjoyed the entire experience," Amor told
Athletics Australia after the race. "I'm really happy with how I ran and executed the race and can't wait to learn from this opportunity which is hopefully not my last Aussie team."
"To break 30 minutes under some tough conditions is really outstanding," said New Mexico Highlands head coach
Bob DeVries.
With temperatures approaching 85 degrees and a persistent wind, the course at the Military Technical College featured jumps over palm tree trunks and hay bales as well as a water pit athletes had to traverse.
"Very proud to represent my country and my university," said Amor. "I want to thank everyone who supported me in getting this opportunity."
