Cowgirls Beat Minnesota-Moorhead 2-1

Kearney, Nebraska - Two first half goals powered New Mexico Highlands to a 2-1 win over Minnesota-Moorhead on Friday afternoon at the University of Nebraska - Kearney. With the win the Cowgirls improved to 2-0-1.

Senior Acacia Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Cowgirls at the 25:09 mark of the match on an assist from Izzie Scott. Twelve minutes later Ruth Covey scored on a feed from Devyn Gunn to put NMHU up 2-0.

Minnesota-Moorhead got on the board twenty minutes into the second half with a goal that ended up being the last scoring of the match.

Freshman Haylee Driscoll got the win in goal for NMHU.

After the win Coach Amanda Evans said," I am very excited about how the players are continuing to buy into our system of play. It is a system that requires our players to work together and trust each other. Moorhead really tested us with their physicality, but we stayed focused on what we came here to do."

Up next, the Cowgirls play Concordia - St. Paul on Sunday morning at 10:00 am (MT).
