Las Vegas, New Mexico - The NMHU Cross Country teams hosted the annual HU XC Jam on Friday afternoon at the Gene Torres Golf Course on Friday afternoon. Both the men's and women's teams won the event and saw tremendous individual performances in the event. The Gene Torres Golf Course is the site for the 2024 RMAC Cross Country Championships on October 26th. Â
For the third time this fall, freshman
Summer Abeyta led the Cowgirls as she posted a 19:03.77 on the 5k course.
Jewels Leslie (19:42.07) and
Josey French (19:59.04) finished second and third for NMHU. Senior
Cemore Donald finished fourth as she passed a runner in the final meters of the race with a 20:09.72. Emma Huren was the fifth NMHU runner on Friday with a time of 21:28.79.
In Friday's men's 7k, freshmen
Weldon Chebon (21:25.58) and James Kuri (21:30.17) finished first and second in the race.
Lawrence Ragland finished in 24:10.89 and
Erardo Gonzalez posted a 24:28.89 to finish third and fourth respectively. Timothy Martinez rounded out the scoring for NMHU with a time of 26:44.08 and an 11th place finish.
NMHU is in Texas next weekend for a race at Dallas Baptist University.
