Cowgirls Soccer is “On the Road Again”

Las Vegas, New Mexico - Cowgirls' soccer team back on the road for two conference games at Fort Lewis and Western Colorado. Cowgirls: The Cowgirls enter this matchup seeking their first conference win after last weekend's trip to MSU-Denver.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Cowgirls dropped their solo game last weekend against Metro State. Senior Devyn Gunn eclipsed 4,000 minutes last week against the Roadrunners.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
On Friday, the Cowgirls will take on the Skyhawks in Durango, CO, at 2 PM. Fort Lewis sits with an overall record of 4-4-1 and a conference record of 1-2. Head Coach Damian Clarke enters his 14th season at the helm of the program. Fort Lewis reached the RMAC Tournament championship last season, and they fell to Colorado School of Mines. Last season, Fort Lewis beat the Cowgirls 3-0.

Western Colorado will face the Cowgirls at Noon on Sunday. The Mountaineers enter this weekend with a 0-9-2 overall record and a 0-2-2 conference record. Searching for their first conference win this weekend. They will face Adams State before the Cowgirls. The game will also be their senior day against the Cowgirls, and the emotions will be running high. Joshua Alcala is in his first year in Gunnison at the helm of Western Colorado's program.

THIN AIR:
Western Colorado is located in Gunnison, CO. The elevation in Gunnison is 7,710 ft, which is the highest in the RMAC. When asked if there is a way to prepare to play at elevation like that, what that looks like, Head Coach Amanda Evans said this:
"Heading to Gunnison, which is another 1,200 feet above sea level from us, can't have its effect. Since we're already training at least 5,000 feet every day, there isn't much else that we can do to prepare. We will be going to the game the day before, and we will be having a practice on the field the day before as well, so this will also help us acclimate and be prepared going into the game."

"This week, we just really want to see our team give us more energy on the field and push to pressure the ball without hesitation. In order to do this, we're going to need good communication and focus during the game. All things that our team is very capable of doing, we are just continuing to expect that consistency." Evans said what the coaching staff wants to see from their team this week.
