Kearney, Nebraska - The Cowboys competed at the 14th Annual Younes Hospitality Open on Saturday and came away with positive results.
"Our guys wrestled hard. They worked to score points, wrestled through a lot of tough positions, and earned a good number of bonus point wins on the day. As a whole we beat a lot of quality wrestlers across the board from both the Division I and Division II levels," Said Coach
Chris Freije. "A lot of times when you have a younger team you'll see the longer days start to get pretty taxing both mentally, and physically. We experienced that, less-so on the physical side, which was great to see. The effort was absolutely there."
Highlights from the Cowboys:
125 pounds saw
Diego Camarillo go 2-2 with a couple of quality wins.
149,
Sebastian Freeman advanced to the tournament quarter finals.
Ivan Smith, at 165 pounds, went 4-2 on the day and was a match away from placing.
Darwin Hull was also a match away from placing.
In 174 pounds,
Cash Bachicha finished 4th.
And in 197 pounds
Devin Kinlicheenie was a match away from placing.
"As a staff we are seeing the maturation from event to event, and (tournament) round to round is what we're aiming towards," said Freije. "The guys did a lot of good things, and figured out some positions that hindered them in some previous outings. We've got a little break for the holiday, and back for another tough test on December 7th. I know our guys are excited."
The Cowboys travel to the Bob Smith Open in Hays, Kansas, on December 7th.
