Hays, Kansas - New Mexico Highlands saw four wrestlers place at the Bob Smith Open Sunday at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State.
Junior
Ivan Smith won at 165 and freshman
Devin Kinlicheenie took the top spot at 197. Also placing were
Terrell Kinlicheenie who took third at 141 and
Cash Bachicha who captured fourth at 174.
Ivan Smith went 4-0 on the day with a pair of technical falls in his first two bouts and then beat Nebraska-Kearney's Corbin Reisz in the semi finals by way of a 12- major decision. He captured the championship with a 15-3 major decision over Dallas Porter from Adams State.
Devin Kinlicheenie had a 5-0 record at the tournament and won his first bouts by decisions. He captured his quarterfinal win by fall, and the semifinal by way of a technical fall. He won the championship by beating Jacob Awiszus of Nebraska-Keanery in a major decision.
Terrell Kinlicheenie was 5-1 on the day en route to his third place finish at 141 pounds.
Cash Bachicha advanced to the third place match with a 6-1 record on the day before retiring due to match limits.
Noah Gurule was 4-2 in 125 and Phil Chabot was 4-2 in 285.
The Cowboys are back on the mat against Fort Hays State on December 17th in Peyton, Colorado.
