Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls dropped a 69-55 decision to Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon in front of a raucous crowd in the Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls are now 12-10 overall and in seventh place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 9-7.
The Mavericks held a 14-12 lead after a back and forth opening quarter as the Cowgirl defense held the conference leaders in check by forcing nine turnovers in the quarter. Colorado Mesa then outscored NMHU 21-12 to take a 35-24 lead at the halftime break.
The Cowgirls outscored Colorado Mesa 21-18 in the third quarter to draw within eight, 53-45 to start the fourth quarter. The Mavericks closed strong, outsourcing the Cowgirls 16-10 in the final quarter en route to the victory.
Aspen Salazar scored a team high 13 points while
Adrianna Torrez added 11 points and
Juliana Aragon had 10. Aragon had a game high seven assists.
Aniya Johnson and
Kapiolani Anitielu had seven rebounds apiece.
Colorado Mesa out rebounded the Cowgirls 37-30.
Up next, the Cowgirls close out the home portion of the 2024-25 regular season schedule next week by hosting Colorado Christian on at 5:00 pm on Thursday and UCCS at 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
