Anitielu And Aragon Lead Cowgirls To Win In Alamosa

Alamosa, Colorado - Kapiolani Anitielu and Juliana Aragon combined for 42 of NMHU's 77 points in the Cowgirls' 77-66 win over Adams State on Thursday evening. The victory lifts the Cowgirls record to 10-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

NMHU led 33-30 at halftime and out scored the hosts 44-36 in the second half en route to the 11 point win.

Kapiolani Anitielu had a team high 22 points and grabbed five rebounds while Juliana Aragon added 20 points and five rebounds to pace the Cowgirls. Aspen Salazar was in double figures with 10 points.

The NMHU bench outscored the Grizzlies bench 37-2.

Senior Eva Ongoongotau grabbed a team high eight rebounds for NMHU.

As a team the Cowgirls shot 42.4% from the floor and 76.5% from the free throw line. They drained eight three pointers in the game, their second most this season.

NMHU held a 39-38 edge on the boards.

Thursday's win in Alamosa was the Cowgirls first since December 2, 2016.

The Cowgirls play their first home game since January 18th on Saturday when they host Fort Lewis at 12:00 pm.
