Strong Defensive Effort Lifts Cowgirls Past Fort Lewis

Las Vegas, New Mexico - A strong defensive effort propelled New Mexico Highlands to a 77-64 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 11-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

The Cowgirls forced 23 Fort Lewis turnovers that they converted into 22 points in Saturday's win. Additionally, the stifling NMHU defense limited the Skyhawks to just 31.7% from the floor.

After leading 44-31 at the half, the Cowgirls led by as many as 21 points in the second half as they cruised to their eighth conference win of the year.

Juliana Aragon led all scorers with 24 points. She was 9-13 from the floor and a perfect four for four from the free throw line. She added six assists and five rebounds in the game.

One week removed from scoring her 1,000th career point, Aragon recorded her 250th career assist in Saturday's win.

Kapiolani Anitielu scored 17 points and had a team high four steals. Aspen Salazar had 10 points.

NMHU shot a season's best 53.6% from the floor and 70.6% from the free throw line.

The Cowgirls look to make it three wins in a row when they host Westminster on Thursday at 5:00 pm.
