Las Vegas, NM -The Cowgirls started the week off with a home game against Colorado Mesa.
1st Half: Colorado Mesa (CMU) 38- NMHU 41
A back-and-forth first quarter between the two teams, as a made shot by one team would lead to a made shot by the other. However, a late surge gave the Cowgirls the lead headed into the second. 23-19
The Cowgirls' opened the second opened the second with the hot hand. They continued to share the wealth, with a handful of Cowgirls taking the lead into the second, 41-38.
2nd Half NMHU 53-68 CMU 62-69
Colorado Mesa would open the second half scoring first, but each team would counter with baskets. The Mavericks would go on a 9-0 run and begin to pull away, but chaos would ensue in the fourth quarter.
After two minutes of no baskets between the two teams, the Cowgirls would catch fire with a 7-0 run to pull within. Aniya Johnson posts up and gets a basket to cut the deficit to two. The Cowgirls came out in a press to force a turnover to tie the game at 66-65, then a Kapiolani Anitielu three-pointer gave the Cowgirls the lead. A late foul with .6 of a second left a late foul sent a Maverick a last-second hail-mary. The Cowgirls fall 69-68.Â
