Amanda Evans said. "We appreciate all the people who came to support us."
The Cowgirls kept Western Colorado off the scoreboard for the first 17 minutes before the Mountaineers broke through for the first goal. Western Colorado added another goal in the 29th minute to take a 2-0 halftime lead.
New Mexico Highlands came out of the break looking to increase offensive pressure and created opportunities in the second half, but the Cowgirls couldn't find the back of the net.
Western Colorado added its third and final goal in the 82nd minute to secure the 3-0 victory.
The loss was the Cowgirls' second of Homecoming weekend, after they hosted Fort Lewis on Thursday before Saturday's match against Western Colorado.
Scouting the Opposition:
Colorado Mesa:
The Mavericks are 6-3-1 this season, with wins and losses against nationally ranked teams and teams receiving votes to be ranked. They also tied last week with the No. 1 team in the nation, Florida Tech.
The head coach for the Mavericks is Jody Lingafeldt, who is in her third season as the head coach of the Mavericks program out in Grand Junction.
Ellie Duncan leads the Mavericks in Goals (5) and is tenth in the RMAC in goals scored. Keely Wiczorek is the Mavericks' keeper and is top two in every statistical category in the RMAC except saves per game.
Westminster University:
Salt Lake City is next on the list for the Cowgirls, as they will face Westminster's Griffins. Sitting at 3-3-2 in the RMAC, Westminster will face Adams State before hosting the Cowgirls. The Griffins' most recent game was against the number one-ranked Florida Tech team, where they fell 1-0.
Allie Lieshout is in her first season as the program's head coach. Before becoming head coach at Westminster, Lieshout played professionally in Europe and in the NWSL. Was also an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Utah and Minnesota and coached professionally as well.
Eight different players have scored the Griffins' goals this season, each with one. Marin Mackenzie has been the Griffins' keeper for eight games this season and has a record 16 saves in 720 minutes played.
