Alamosa, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands picked up a pair of victories and saw several competitive efforts, but the Cowboys fell to Adams State in a road dual on Wednesday night.
The Grizzlies claimed the opening five bouts before the Cowboys broke through at 165 pounds.
Ivan Smith Jr., eighth in the latest NWCA rankings, delivered one of the highlights of the night for New Mexico Highlands, earning a commanding 10-0 major decision over Royce Uhrig to put the Cowboys on the board.
Heavyweight Phillip Chobot added another strong performance in the final match of the dual, securing a 7-3 decision over Jaylen Ignacio to close the night on a positive note for Highlands.
Adams State built its lead early, recording decisions at 125, 133, and 141 before adding a technical fall at 149 and a pin at 157. The Grizzlies also picked up a forfeit at 174 and added major decisions at 184 and 197.
