Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands wrestling is on the road this Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. facing #16 Adams State in Alamosa, CO.Â
The Cowboys, who are still fighting to break into the top 25 team rankings, receiving six total votes in the latest NWCA Division II Top 25, are coming off of two losses, most recently to the Western Colorado Mountaineers, who are also receiving votes to join the top 25 rankings. Despite the loss, the Cowboys picked up wins at 141 with
Terrell Kinlicheenie, at 165 with Junior
Ivan Smith Jr. whose currently ranked number eight, and finally at 197 as
Devin Kinlicheenie delivered one of the better performances of the season, coming back from down 13-1 to win a 17-16 decision over a strong RMAC opponent. A win against Adams State will likely put them in a Top 20 spot in the NWCA Poll.Â
Adams State, a fellow member of the RMAC, beat the Cowboys 45-3 last season in the John A. Wilson Complex. Having a very strong 8-1 season this year, they seek to continue their momentum off of a 34-2 win over Western Colorado. As the highest ranked team in the RMAC they hope to continue their contention for the top spot, despite suffering a loss to #23 Colorado School of Mines. Both teams will come into the dual hoping to cement themselves in not only the RMAC but as \Top 20 teams nationally.Â
