Salt Lake City, Utah - The New Mexico Highlands University men's basketball team picked up a key RMAC road victory Thursday night, defeating Westminster University 91-84 at Behnken Field House
The Cowboys improved to 11-15 overall and 9-6 in conference play with the win, while the Griffins fell to 9-14 overall and 4-11 in the RMAC.
New Mexico Highlands used an efficient offensive performance to control much of the contest. The Cowboys shot 62.5 percent from the field - their second-best effort of the season - and connected on 66.7 percent of their three-point attempts, helping them build a 45-42 halftime lead. New Mexico Highlands maintained its advantage throughout the second half, outscoring the hosts 46-42 and closing out the seven-point victory.
Five Cowboys finished in double figures, led by
Ibrahima Sacko, who scored a career high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added a game high eight rebounds.
Ramiah Adedigba followed with 21 points on an efficient 7-for-10 night from the floor along with five rebounds.
Marcus Pierce contributed 13 points, while
BJ Comer added 10 points and seven assists.
Nikk Williams chipped in 14 points off the bench.
The Cowboys head to Grand Junction for a key RMAC match up on Saturday afternoon against Colorado Mesa University. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. The Mavericks defeated Fort Lewis College 100–76 on Thursday night to move into a three-way tie for first place in the conference.
