Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands wrestling is on the road Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. to face CSU Pueblo in Pueblo, CO in both teams' final dual of the season.
The Cowboys are coming off of four losses, three of which were to top 16 teams in the NWCA Top 25 Team rankings. Despite the loss to Adams State Wednesday night, the Cowboys picked up wins at 165 with Junior
Ivan Smith Jr. who is currently ranked number eight, and at HWT with redshirt Sophomore
Phil Chobot picking up a win over Jaylen Igancio. A win over CSU Pueblo would be a necessary momentum boost going into the NCAA D2 Super-Region IVÂ tournament that leads into the 2025 NCAA D2 National Championships in Sioux Falls, SD.Â
CSU Pueblo, a fellow member of the RMAC, beat the Cowboys 37-18 last season in the John A. Wilson Complex. Despite their 4-8 record, and coming off of six straight losses, they've had strong performances against D1 Air Forces back-up squad and beat #21 San Francisco State. Both teams are looking for the first RMAC this season, a win on Saturday night will be a momentum boost for either team leading into the Super Regional Championships on February 28th in Golden, Colorado.
