Pueblo, Colorado - The New Mexico Highlands wrestling team picked up four individual victories Saturday night in an RMAC dual at Colorado State Pueblo, highlighted by two bonus-point performances and a pair of close decisions.
The Cowboys opened the night on a strong note at 125 pounds.
Diego Camarillo controlled the pace from the start and built a steady lead before earning a 16-6 major decision over Josh Jaramillo to give New Mexico Highlands the early edge.
After the ThunderWolves evened the dual at 133, the Cowboys reclaimed momentum at 141 pounds.
Terrell Kinlicheenie delivered in a tight match up, holding off Eddie Bowman for a 5-4 decision to secure New Mexico Highlands' second victory of the night.
At 165 pounds,
Ivan Smith turned in one of the team's most dominant efforts. Smith controlled the action throughout his bout, piling up points on the way to an 18-7 major decision over Deacon Pickett to give the Cowboys their third win.
New Mexico Highlands added another strong finish at 197 pounds.
Devin Kinlicheenie provided a late spark with a fall over Mario Tafoya at the 4:51 mark, recording the Cowboys' second pin of the dual and fourth victory overall.
Despite the four wins, Colorado State Pueblo claimed the remaining bouts to secure the 24-17 victory.
The Cowboys are at the NCAA Super Regionals on February 28th.
